We all work at the Gordon county animal shelter and sprinkles came to us about thirteen years ago, whoever dumped her off didn't even care enough to bring her all the way to the shelter, they dumped her off down the road. Eaten up with mange and pregnant, she was so scared she wouldn't come to anyone, we tried everything. After she had her pups and we found them, she trusted us even less. We spent months contemplating on ways to catch her and find her a forever home. To make a very long and emotional story short, eventually she just walked into our office and layed down. After all that, we decided to have her spayed and keep her. She became our shelter mascot, after years of being a faithful unpaid employee, touching many lives and hearts, she passed away quietly, taking a part of our hearts with her. Thank you for fitting in Henrietta Saffy cat's whole name and nickname. I always told Henri that a Saffy cat is a very, very good cat and she would puff her chest out and look proud when called one. The workmanship on this memorial does her justice. I didn't know, when I first met my FIV+ shelter cat, that she would become my best friend and that she was in early renal failure. For eight years, Henri had a wonderful life, although she had to endure needles and medications round the clock on a daily basis all those years. She seldom protested and was a real trooper. Over the years there were other health problems and more medicines. Henri would open her mouth for pills! She knew the drill. People ask me why I bothered to give her this care. The pleasure of her company was worth it. Henri lived three years longer than a cat in renal failure with one kidney is supposed to. In January, that kidney gave out and I had to make a difficult nut necessary decision. When I come home from work, Henri is no longer at the door waiting with the dogs. Her 17 year old companion cat is still looking for her. But I'm comforted by the fact that Henri is at rest, finally free of needles and medicines. I buried her in the garden, her favorite place, beneath a bush she liked to sleep under. This memorial is a beautiful testament to her memory. It was so easy to order from your website, and you got the engravings just right. We have it in the house, sitting on a small stand, where he used to sleep. We miss Bogie so much. The grief is almost unbearable. He's gone forever, and it's hard to accept. In two weeks, Bogie would have been 15 years old. That's a long life for a Boston Terrier. He was confined to a wheel chair the last 5 years, but we made sure he had a good life. We took him on long walks every day along a river trail next to our house. He loved his long walks. His long life was due to his wheelchair. I'm not sure how we could have managed taking care of him without the chair. About 6 years ago, our vet saw a spot on an x-ray of Bogie's spine. An MRI and myelogram performed at a specialty clinic in Dallas showed an inoperable growth pinching his spinal cord (I don't remember the medical term). But, he was in no pain. About a year later he lost use of his back legs. About 4 years ago, the vet diagnosed a problem with his right eye. An eye operation saved the eye. One of the funniest stories about Bogie involved his best friend, a large female Lab named Roxie. Roxie weighed at least six times more than Bogie. Roxie learned to flip Bogie over in his wheel chair and then lick his face. Bogie was a tough little guy, and he loved rough play. My beloved 6 year old Rottweiler that passed away late last month, October 2009. You will never know how much it meant to me. I pray that it is true about our pets waiting for us in heaven. Though I cried when I read it, at the same time, I smiled thinking of all the past pets that have left us, imaging them all being together, running and playing. I think Buddy would be sitting there looking for me and thinking to himself where I am. Let me tell you about him. Buddy was a gentle giant of a dog. But he always wanted to be like our other small dogs, a lap puppy. Always too big for rides in my small car, so we would take him for rides in our motor home, or in the camper shell of our pickup. Not a mean bone in his body. Loving to the very end. Happy, well cared for, well loved part of our family. Buddy was a cancer survivor. At the age of two he was diagnosed as having Squeamish cell carcinoma. A aggressive cancer in dogs. We had three options given us. #1) keep him comfortable until he passed, #2) Remove the half of his lower jaw where the cancer was or #3) try to kill the cancer cells using Radiation treatments. But the treatments would be expensive. We still opted for #3. I drove buddy to Santa Cruz, Ca animal Oncology hospital every morning 45 miles from home, and went every afternoon back to pick him up, for a total of 28 treatments and a cost of just over $6,000.00, Buddy was Cancer free. We were elated! At the age of 3, he was bitten by a brown recluse spider, another stay in the hospital and a total bill of $1,500.00 shortly after he got sick again and was rushed to the hospital where he was packed in ice to bring a high fever down, His Vet's were baffled as to what was going on with him. After some blood tests were done and sent to UC Davis University, it was determined that he had Leptos. Which is caused by wild animal Urine. We live in the country and apparently something like a racoon staked a claim in our backyard and was urinating we believe either on Buddy's toy ball or he was rolling it over it and ingesting it that way. Every morning we had to turn the sprinklers on to dilute the grass before he went outside. and another $2,000.00 vet bill. The point is, We never spared any expense when it came to his care, even though at times it was very difficult to cover the cost. For a couple of years, his check up's were great. His weight was great his vet's were happy he was down to 142 pounds, His heart, Liver, Lungs, were healthy, Eye's, ear's, teeth etc in perfect condition. He was playing in the house with the other dogs and the were getting a little rambunctious so I opened the back door and told them "All right, every one outside to play." 10 minutes later I left to run to the store and my husband told our Son to let the dogs back in, They found Buddy lying near the fence and he was already gone. No marks on him, no signs of anything. His Vet's believe Buddy had a undiagnosed Blood clot that broke free and instantly killed my other wise healthy, happy baby. I am still devastated. I Thank you for your Story and the Beautiful head stone you did for me. It is beautiful, Buddy has a special area in our Pet cemetery, with a short white fence around him and yellow rose bushes. I go out every morning to see him and cry to hold him. I have a hole in my heart that I can never fill. He truly was a special friend to me, and I will love him for the rest of my life. I just wanted you to know about him too. He survived so much, Was loved dearly, was so gentle with the other dogs in our house, including our 5 pound yorkie who was his best friend. When I received my beautiful memorial plaque of my Babe...I cried...tears of both sadness, since she was no longer physically with me and of overwhelming happiness with the beautiful granite plaque I was holding.
